Weekly Blog Post 7

I spent my Spring break fixing my animation scene for 545 in order to stop Maya from crashing and lagging. I got all of my characters referenced and didn't lose any animation. I have one scene left so I hope to update next week's blog with the full first pass video.

After break, I worked on more UI Icons for my team's game. I finished a bag with a bomb emblem on it first. I was worried the gem icon would take longer but after a lot of layers, my director approved it.

I had a little free time so I decided to update my profile picture for my social media.

After my homework was done, my manager at the company I work part-time for asked me to design a logo. The company would be called Taco Twist and he wanted the logo to reflect the name and have a similar style to their current franchise Pizza Twist.

The first few drafts were simply a taco in front of a red circle.

After that, he drew me a sketch of a spicy pepper and wanted the design to look like it.

I made some pepper designs and put a hat on some as he requested.

The latest design was created after he asked me to flip the pepper and make it red. I hope for this design to please his boss since he is my boss as well. Who knew a pizza job could help me get a side gig of designing a logo?

Weekly Blog Post 6

This week I mainly focused on my 2D art and got a few icons done for the game design project! I worked on Item icons for most of this week and went through many variations for each. The final products are seen below. The bowling ball was simple since it was four circles and easy to shade. The waves were the tricky part since I needed to implement a similar color but as a pattern to show that the ball is rolling while being rotated in-game.

The Fire Wand was not as easy. I tried many different shapes as seen in my last post before my director suggested a simple triangular wand similar to the Harry Potter style. The most difficult part was making an effect look like fire to display the power of the wand. At first, I did red swirls around the wand but it was too symmetrical. I eventually discovered the flame tool in photoshop which helped me create a fire effect in the motion of a path.

Below are the items during experimentation. I am happy with what I was able to produce but would like to focus more on my animation skills after this week.

Weekly Blog Post 5

This week I worked on my 545 animation and some more UI Icons.

I finished the flame crown after many rounds of feedback.

My next project was to draw a better icon which was much simpler so it did not take as long to complete.
My current project is a fire wand and I gave my director different versions but he preferred a simpler design. I am working on the effects for the wand to make it look magical and elemental.
These are the more complex designs but were not chosen. The color is flatter because they were prototypes and I did not want to spend a lot of time on detail if they were not what my director wanted.
